SBP officially bring back Chot Reyes as head coach of Gilas Pilipinas

Vincent "Chot" Reyes, the five-time PBA coach of the year, is back as head coach of the Gilas Pilipinas for the third time.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Executive Director Sonny Barrios formally announced the return of Reyes as head coach of the Gilas Pilipinas in a meeting with the Gilas 5.0 Tuesday (October 18).

The meeting was streamed by Sports5 on a Facebook Live broadcast.

Reyes will replace coach Tab Baldwin, who has been named team consultant.

The eight-time PBA champion coach first handled national teammen's national basketball team of the Philippines in 2007 and in 2013 when Gilas Pilipinas won silver in the FIBA-Asia Championships in Manila, earning a ticket to the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

The Gilas 5.0 players who were present in the meeting are Mike Tolomia, Russel Escoto, Arnold Van Opstal, Kevin Ferrer, Mac Belo, RR Pogoy, Almond Vosotros, Jio Jalalon, Von Pessumal, Ed Daquioag, Carl Cruz and Fil-Canadian Matthew Wright.

These 12, plus 12 other PBA players will be tapped for international competitions with the goal of qualifying for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
