The De La Salle University have a 1-0 lead in the UAAP Season 79 Finals after beating the Ateneo de Manila University, 67-65, on Saturday, December 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Jeron Teng clutch plays down the stretch led the Green Archers to win the game. He scored the go-ahead layup with 15.1 seconds remaining then blocking a shot by Aaron Black in the ensuing play.
The King Archer finished the game with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Ben Mbala had 20 points and 15 rebounds, while rookie Aljun Melecio added 12 including a two triples in the fourth quarter.
Aaron Black, the only Eagle in double figures, scored 12 points along with 8 rebounds, with Adrian Wong adding nine.
Thirdy Ravena contributed eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, but hurt his team by committing six of Ateneo's 16 turnovers.
The top seeded De La Salle Green Archers will try to finish off the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 79 Basketball Tournament Finals on Wednesday, December 7 at the Araneta Coliseum.
