The Philippines was drawn into Group B and will be competing in the group stage against China, Qatar and Iraq at the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.

The 2017 FIBA Asia Cup will take place in Lebanon from August 8 to 20.
Here are the results of the draw:
- Group A: I.R. Iran, Jordan, Syria, India
- Group B: Iraq, China, Philippines, Qatar
- Group C: Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Korea, New Zealand
- Group D: Japan, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Australia
The 16-team competition is the first ever Asia-Oceania joint continental Championship, which includes Oceanian powerhouses Australia and New Zealand.
The group stage will be played in a single round-robin format, with the top three teams of each group advancing to the second phase where they will be they be divided into two groups (E & F).
The tournament will be played in a knockout format from the Quarterfinals to Final.
The Philippines will be represented by national men's basketball team Gilas Pilipinas, who won the 2017 SEABA Championship.
