The 2018 Asian Games, also known as Jakarta Palembang 2018, is scheduled to feature 462 events in 40 sports including the 33 sports that will be held at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Additional disciplines being introduced at the 2020 Olympics were also added, including 3x3 basketball and BMX freestyle, along with other popular events in Asia such as sepak takraw, kabaddi, jet ski, paragliding, bridge and additional martial arts.

For the first time in Asian Games history, Electronic sports (eSports) and canoe polo will be contested as a demonstration sport.

The medals tally of the Asian Games 2018 will be decided on the number of gold medals won by a nation. With the nations tied at gold medals, the second yardstick to measure is on the silver medals and then bronze. If the teams are still tied, they would be given equal ranking and will be listed alphabetically by IOC country code.

In 2014 Asian Games, China has topped the medal table for the ninth successive times with a total of 342 medals including 151 gold, 108 silver and 83 bronze.

South Korea came second with 234 medals including 79 gold, 71 silver and 77 bronze.

Japan ranked third place with 200 medals including 47 gold, 76 silver and 77 bronze.
