Pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena will make a bid to win a gold medal for the Philippines in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Obiena cleared 5.81 meters in a tournament in Chiara, Italy on Tuesday, September 3, surpassing the 5.80 qualifying standard for men’s pole vault to earn a spot in the world's foremost sports competition.
He is the first Filipino to qualify for the 2020 Olympics.
The 23-year-old Pinoy pole vaulter is currently ranked 12th in the IAAF Vault World Rankings
