Juan Gomez de Liaño hit the game-winning triple with 7.8 seconds remaining as the UP Fighting Maroons defeated the DLSU Green Archers, 72-71, in the UAAP Season 82 Men's Basketball tournament Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Fighting Maroons came back from a 4-point deficit in the final minute and 19 seconds. Down 69-71 with 12 seconds remaining, Gomez de Liaño stole the ball and pushed it ahead, then converted the three-pointer to win the game.
Juan finished with 10 points on a 2-of-3 shooting from three-point area.
Kobe Paras recorded 21 points, while Bright Akhuetie added a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds for University of the Philippines, who kept their standings at solo second with a 5-1 record.
Aljun Melecio paced the Green Archers with 16 points, while Andrei Caracut tallied 16 points and four assists.
De La Salle University absorbed their fourth defeat in six games.
