2021 FIBA Asia Cup rescheduled to July 2022

The international basketball federation announced on Friday, July 23 that it will be rescheduling the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup, originally scheduled to be held next month in Jakarta, Indonesia to July 2022.

"The FIBA Asia Cup 2021 will be played as planned in Jakarta, Indonesia, but is rescheduled to July 2022, right after the window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asia Qualifiers."

According to FIBA, the move was done in consideration of numerous factors, such as current travel restrictions, the well-being of the participants, fan access and experience, and the objective of ensuring the highest quality of events.

Hosts Indonesia, Philippines, Korea, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Lebanon, Bahrain, Iran, Syria, Jordan and Kazakhstan have already qualified in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup. Three more will be determined in the rescheduled Qualifying Tournaments set to be played in late August.

Gilas Pilipinas to push through with their participation in the 2021 King Abdullah Cup

Gilas Pilipinas is schedule to play in the 2021 King Abdullah Cup in preparation for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup.

Despite the cancellation of the continental tournament, the Philippine national men’s basketball team will still push through with stint in Jordan.

Team Philippines lead by Thirdy Ravena, along with Dwight Ramos and Angelo Kouame will take on Egypt on the July 26, Saudi Arabia on the 27th, Jordan’s Team A on the 28th, Tunisia on the 29th, and Jordan’s Team B on the 30th.
