Gilas Pilipinas bows to Dominican Republic, ends FIBA OQT

Gilas Pilipinas bowed out of contention after losing to Dominican Republic, 94-67, in its final game in Belgrade, Serbia.

The national men’s basketball team failed to advance to the next round of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament after a 0-2 record.

Gilas held a 45-51 lead at the start of the third before a huge collapse that ended the team's hopes of qualifying for the Tokyo Games.

Dominican Republic outscored the Philippines 26-10 in the third period to take over the game for good.

ADVERTISEMENT Victor Liz had 23 points on 5-for-6 shooting from 3-point area to lead the Dominican Republic.

Gelvis Solano, who led the charge for Dominican Republic in the third quarter, finished with 21 points, five assists and three steals.

Jordan Heading was the highest scoring player from Gilas with 16 points. Naturalized center Ange Kouame added 10 points and six rebounds.
