Olympics: Nesthy Petecio advances to round of 16 after defeating Congo's Sakobi

Boxer Nesthy Petecio won via unanimous decision over Democratic Republic of Congo’s Marcelat Sakobi Matshu, 5-0, to begin her bid for the Olympic gold.

Four judges scored 30-27 for Petecio while one judge gave 29-28 in the opening-round women’s featherweight match in the Olympics in Tokyo on Saturday, July 24.

The victory set her up in a round-of-16 match against Lin Yu-ting of Chinese-Taipei.

Yu-ting won the bronze in the 2019 world championship. Petecio won the gold in that event.
