Eric Cray successfully defended his 400m hurdles title after ruling the race in the 2017 SEA Games.
The gold medalist in the 2013 and 2015 SEA Games finished the race with a time of 50.03 seconds, edging the Vietnamese Quach Cong Lich by .02 seconds, who came in second at 50.05.
The 28-year-old Cray gave Philippines its eighth gold medal after Day 4 of biennial multi-sport event.

Medina Francis was also in the event but registered a DNF (did not finish) after he got clipped on the last hurdle.
In the final of the 100-meter dash, Cray settled for silver with a time of 10.43 seconds behind Malaysia's 19-year old Khairul Hafiz (10.38). The Filipino-American track and field athlete won gold in the same event two years ago.
