Founded by Senator Manny Pacquiao on August 29, 2017, the MPBL has rapidly gained prominence as a premier men's basketball professional league in the Philippines. What began with 10 Luzon-based teams in its inaugural season has evolved into a dynamic league featuring teams from across the country.

Throughout its history, the MPBL has experienced remarkable growth, with the number of participating teams fluctuating from season to season. From 26 teams to 31 in 2019-2020, and eventually 22 in 2022, the league's evolution underscores its resilience and adaptability in the ever-changing landscape of Philippine basketball.

As anticipation builds for the start of the new season, fans fondly remember the reigning champions, the Pampanga Giant Lanterns, who clinched the title in the previous season. With the stage set for another thrilling season of MPBL action, basketball enthusiasts can expect nothing short of exhilarating moments and unforgettable performances from their favorite teams and players.
