Gilas Pilipinas has swept the Group A preliminary round with a 98-66 win over host Malaysia at the MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday night (August 23).
The home team grabbed a narrow 20-18 lead after ten minutes of action. But Philippines soon erased the deficit and pulled ahead in the second quarter to seal the victory for Gilas.
Christian Standhardinger led the Philippines with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Crowd favorite Kobe Paras added 16 markers.
Baser Amer and Carl Bryan Cruz were ejected from the game after a commotion that involves Kevin Ferrer, who got entangled with Kuek Tian Yuan.
