Gilas Pilipinas fall short against Angola 81-84

The Gilas Pilipinas continued to battle and were able to send the game to overtime, but ultimately fell short against the Angolga, falling 81-84, in the first round of 2019 FIBA World Cup on Wednesday, September 4.

The Philippines ended the group stage with three losses and finished fourth in Group D.

CJ Perez nailed a three-pointer with 33.1 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Gilas took the early lead in overtime, but Angola battled back to take the victory.

Andray Blatche had 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Philippines. Perez, who continued to turn heads with his play, added 17 points and seven rebounds in the loss.


For the third game in a row, Gilas struggled from the three-point area, only making five out of its 28 shots.

Angola, who recorded their first win of the tournament, shot 41% from the field, and limited Philippines to just 33%.

Valdelicio Joaquim led Angola with 20 points, while Reggie Moore and Moreira added 12 points each.

Both teams will move into the classification stage of the tournament.
