Kai Sotto joins Orlando Magic in Summer League

Kai Sotto will make his NBA Summer League debut with the Orlando Magic after being included in the team's roster for the 2023 NBA 2K24 Summer League in Las Vegas.

Sotto, the Philippines-born basketball player, will have the opportunity to showcase his skills alongside a mix of emerging talents and seasoned veterans in the Summer League, under the guidance of head coach Dylan Murphy, who leads the coaching staff of the Osceola Magic, a team in the NBA G League based in Kissimmee, Florida, and are affiliated with the Orlando Magic.

The 21-year-old Sotto will play alongside two of the top rookies in the 2023 NBA Draft, Anthony Black and Jett Howard. Black was selected sixth overall, while Howard was taken 11th overall.

Before accepting the invitation from the Magic, Sotto worked out with NBA teams with Utah Jazz, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks.

Sotto, who went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, played two seasons in the NBL with the Adelaide 36ers. In his two seasons, Sotto averaged 7.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game.

After leaving the 36ers, Sotto signed with the Hiroshima Dragonflies of the Japanese B.League. The contract included an NBA opt-out clause, which allows Sotto to leave the Dragonflies if he signed by an NBA team. He averaged 9.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and a team-high 1.3 blocks in 23 games in his first season in the B.League.
