The San Miguel Beermen captured the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup title through 4-1 advantage in the best-of-seven series, defeating the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, 91-85, in Game 5 of the Finals on Sunday, March 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen also won the Perpetual Trophy after three straight All-Filipino championship. The team led by head coach Leo Austria joined Talk 'N Text as the only teams to win that trophy.
June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos each had 21 points to lead San Miguel in scoring while Alex Cabagnot added 18.
Chris Ross, who was named Finals MVP for the second straight Philippine Cup, finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists and six steals. He averaged 17.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 9.2 assists, and 1.8 steals in the finals.
Japeth Aguilar led the 7th seed Ginebra in Game 5 with 26 points on top of 16 rebounds.
