Spain defeats Argentina to win 2019 FIBA World Cup

Spain defeated Argentina 95-75 in the Gold medal game to win the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup for the first time since 2006.

Six players scored double-digit points for Spain, led by the 20 points from point guard Ricky Rubio. The Phoenix Suns guard, who was named best player of the game and tournament MVP, had also seven rebounds and three assists in the win.

Sergio Llull added 15 points.

Marc Gasol, who became the second player to win an NBA crown and the World Cup gold medal, finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, three blocks, two steals.


Spain opened the game with a 14-2 lead, Argentina answered with an 11-0 run, but the Spanish came back with a 17-1 run and never looked back.

Gabriel Deck led Argentina with 24 points. Luis Scola was limited to eight points, shooting 1 for 10 from the floor.

The Spaniards locked down on defense when it mattered most, holding the Argentinian squad to 36 percent shooting from the field, blocking eight shots and posting nine total steals.
