2nd All-Filipino instead of Reinforced Conference
The PVL Second All-Filipino Conference will replace the Reinforced Conference due to sanctions imposed by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF).
The PNVF took action against the PVL, citing operational activities that occurred "within the national team period from May 16 to October 15 without due authorization from the PNVF."
Typically, the PVL clubs secure International Transfer Certificates (ITCs) for imports, allowing foreign players to participate in the league. In this new All-Filipino conference, the emphasis will now be on local talent, offering a unique opportunity for Filipino players to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.
The PVL Second All-Filipino Conference promises to provide fans with a thrilling display of volleyball prowess from the country's top talents. As teams adjust to this revised format, the competition is expected to be fierce, with each team striving for excellence and a chance to make a mark in PVL history.
Opening Games Schedule
The 2023 PVL Second All-Filipino Conference is set to tip off on October 15, 2023 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, promising an exciting start of the tournament. This conference introduces some new faces and sees the absence of one team, making it unique in many ways.
This edition of the PVL welcomes two new teams: the NXLED Chameleons and the Galeries Tower Highrisers. The Chameleons, affiliated with the Akari Chargers, and the Highrisers will aim to make their mark in the league, adding fresh competition to the mix.
However, there's also news of a departure. The Foton Tornadoes have withdrawn from the PVL, which is a significant change for the league.
With twelve teams in this conference, it's the largest gathering of local club teams in the league's history, promising intense and thrilling competition.
The conference opener features a clash of titans, as the defending champions, the Creamline Cool Smashers, take on the Choco Mucho Flying Titans at 7 p.m.
Before that, at 3 p.m., the newly debuting NXLED will face off against the Gerflor Defenders. Then, at 5 p.m., it's a sister act as the Cignal HD Spikers and PLDT High Speed Hitters share the court.
The Cool Smashers, who dominated the first All-Filipino Conference earlier this year and finished second in the Invitational conference, are the early favorites to clinch the title once again. However, they'll face tough competition from other teams, including the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, Petro Gazz Angels, Chery Tiggo Crossovers, and Farm Fresh Foxies.
Format
The 2023 PVL Second All-Filipino Conference is adopting an exciting new format, offering a unique twist to the league's dynamics.
This conference , teams will engage in a single-round robin elimination, ensuring that every squad competes against one another. The top four performing teams from this elimination round will then advance to the semifinals, where they will engage in intense best-of-three series.
The finals stage will also witness a best-of-three format for both the championship and the bronze medal match, promising thrilling and competitive volleyball action for fans.
In an effort to enhance the efficiency of matches and sustain the thrill of the game, the PVL has implemented several adjustments for the All-Filipino Conference.
One noteworthy alteration includes a reduction in the number of coaches' timeouts allowed per set, a move aimed at preventing unnecessary prolongation of matches. Additionally, the technical timeouts per set have been reduced from two to just one, which will now occur when the leading team reaches the 13th point. In the past, these technical timeouts were held at the eighth and 16th points.
These changes promise an engaging and dynamic conference of volleyball in the PVL. Fans can look forward to more competitive and faster-paced matches, making the 2023 PVL Second All-Filipino Conference a must-watch event for all volleyball enthusiasts.
