Petro Gazz stuns Creamline in epic five-set thriller

The Petro Gazz Angels pulled off a stunning comeback victory over the heavily favored Creamline Cool Smashers in a thrilling five-set battle (15-25, 25-18, 24-26, 25-19, 15-13) on Saturday at the City of Santa Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex.

This win not only propels Petro Gazz into a tie for second place but also serves as a major upset in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference, crushing the Capital1 Solar Spikers.

The Angels overcame a 1-2 deficit to outlast the formidable Creamline squad in a tightly contested match that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.

Brooke Van Sickle emerged as the hero for the Angels, delivering a stellar performance that included a career-high 29 points. Van Sickle's incredible display featured 23 powerful attacks, four crucial blocks, and two well-placed aces. Additionally, she showcased her defensive prowess with 20 excellent receptions and 12 outstanding digs.

With Van Sickle leading the charge, Petro Gazz soared to second place in the team standings with a 6-2 win-loss record, matching their vanquished opponents.

Jonah Sabete also made significant contributions to the Angels' victory, tallying 21 points while providing solid defensive support with 14 excellent receptions and 13 excellent digs. Meanwhile, teammates Cherry Rose Nunag and Remy Palma chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively, further bolstering Petro Gazz's offense.


Despite the loss, Creamline displayed commendable performances from Tots Carlos and Bea De Leon, who notched 15 and 13 points, respectively. Alyssa Valdez and Jema Galanza also contributed with 11 points each, demonstrating their versatility on both offense and defense.

Looking ahead, Petro Gazz is set to face Cignal after a 10-day break on April 16 at the Philsports Arena. Meanwhile, Creamline aims to bounce back as they take on Nxled on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., also at Philsports.
